We build on previous research the behavioral theory of firm to examine relationship between performance shortfalls and internationalization. start from existing literature in claiming that interplay aspirations restoring survival concerns leads an inverted U-shaped a firm's its new Our main contribution is show CEO duality moderates this relationship. Dual CEOs have high control board reduces oversight increases their job security. This allows them impose risk preferences, thus embracing over aspirations. empirical analysis using sample Spanish listed firms 1986 2010 provides support for our hypotheses.
